Overview: Dog Reactivity & Canine Aggression Training Intermediate Course

Do you have a lead reactive dog? Do they pull, lunge, bark, or scream at other dogs on a walk? Are you struggling to find places where there are no dogs just so you can both enjoy your walks together? The Dog Reactivity Course is a form of canine aggression training that works to decrease your dog’s reactivity, so they can be calm around other dogs. You can enjoy your walks again with a dog who can calmly walk past dogs.

The intermediate course builds on the work you have put in from the Dog Reactivity Foundation course. In this course, we will focus on teaching lead reactive dogs how to calmly go for lead walks with other dogs. This will mean no more walks on your own in remote locations. This course is for anyone who would like to go for on lead walks with their friends and their dogs.

All content is delivered by a qualified canine behaviourist using non-confrontational training and is based on current research in dog training and behaviour.

If this sounds like the course for you then book your spot now or contact our dog behaviourist if you would like to know more; we also cover Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and the Cotswolds.

What Support Do You Need For Your Lead Reactive Dog?

Our reactive dog training classes in Evesham and Stratford will help you combat the following behaviour concerns for your lead reactive dog

Building Focus

Often our dogs get so distracted when out on a walk that they do not even respond to their name. This course will help build on the calm from the Foundation course and teach them how to automatically focus on us when around other dogs.

Heelwork

Having a dog who pulls on their lead is no fun for anyone. The intermediate course goes through how to teach our dogs to calmly walk on a loose lead when around other dogs.

Calm Greetings

The course will help teach your dog how to settle by your side when you stop and talk to people and their dogs you do not know.

Emergency Behaviours

Not every opportunity is a training opportunity. The course will also cover what to do in situations that are too overwhelming for your dog.

Advanced Clicker Skills

This course will build on the clicker skills that you gained from the Foundation course to teach more advanced behaviours for reducing reactivity.

Parallel Walking

One of the many important social skills our dogs need to learn is you do not need to try and play with every dog you meet! This course will focus on helping our dogs calmly walk next to other dogs so that we are close enough to chat with our friends.

How Will This Canine Behaviourist Service Help You?

Initial Consultation

Your initial consultation will be at the barn and will be one on one. It will last an hour and will cover:

  • Update your dog’s assessment that we completed from either the Foundation course or one to one as your dog has made progress since then.
  • If you are new to Canine Kin then we will assess your dog to ensure they are ready to skip straight to intermediate.
  • Your dog will get to play some games in the field where there are no triggers just so they can learn the field is a great place to be.
  • I will teach you the core skills you will need for the course.
  • You will then receive a summary of the consultation which will include what we discussed and act as a reference while we work together.
  • A report will then be sent to your vet for continuity of communication and support.

Blended Learning

Following your initial consultation and induction you will then receive a link to book a spot on one of the 4 week courses. These courses start on the first Sunday of each month.

Each week you will be emailed the tasks you need to complete at home before the next session. You get remote support on our Facebook member’s group where you can post questions or videos of your training for feedback and guidance. It is a space where we can discuss the course content, and share pictures and videos of our progress and training for feedback and support. It is a friendly community that supports one another as supporting a reactive dog is challenging, and we are there to help one another. This is a great space to get continual support between classes to ensure you reach your goal of a calm and relaxed dog.
